The seventh seal opens with half an hour of silence in heaven, followed by seven angels receiving seven trumpets, while another angel offers incense with the prayers of saints on the golden altar, then hurls fire from the altar to earth causing thunder, lightning, and earthquake. The first four trumpets strike: hail and fire burn a third of earth and trees; a burning mountain makes a third of the sea blood, killing sea creatures and ships; the star Wormwood poisons a third of rivers; and a third of sun, moon, and stars are darkened. An eagle cries three woes for the remaining trumpet blasts.
