The Lamb opens the first four seals, releasing four horsemen: a white horse of conquest, a red horse bringing war, a black horse of famine, and a pale horse named Death with Hades following, given power over a fourth of the earth. The fifth seal reveals the souls of martyrs under the altar crying for vindication, given white robes and told to rest until their number is complete. The sixth seal brings cosmic upheaval—a great earthquake, the sun blackened, the moon bloodied, stars falling, the sky rolling up—causing all humanity to hide from the wrath of the Lamb.
