Rescue me, LORD, from the evil man. Keep me safe from the violent man.
They plan evil things in their hearts. Every day they gather together for war.
They have made their tongues sharp like a snake's. The poison of adders is under their lips. Selah.
Keep me, LORD, from the hands of the wicked. Keep me safe from the violent man. They have planned to trip up my steps.
The proud have hidden a trap for me, and ropes. They have spread a net beside the road. They have set snares for me. Selah.
I said to the LORD, "You are my God. Hear the sound of my pleading, LORD."
O GOD the Lord, the strength that saves me, you have covered my head on the day of battle.
LORD, do not give the wicked what they want. Do not let their evil plan succeed, or they will lift themselves up. Selah.
As for the heads of those who surround me, let the trouble their own lips speak cover them.
Let burning coals fall on them. Let them be thrown into the fire, into deep pits, so that they do not rise again.
Do not let a man of evil words be settled in the earth. Evil will hunt the violent man down to destroy him.
I know that the LORD will defend the cause of those who suffer, and the right of the poor.
Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name. The upright will live in your presence.
