O LORD, you have searched me, and you know me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up. You understand my thoughts from far away.
You go all around my path and my lying down. You know all my ways well.
There is not a word on my tongue that you do not know completely, O LORD.
You have closed me in behind and in front, and laid your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me. It is high; I cannot reach it.
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I run from your presence?
If I go up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in hell, look, you are there.
If I take the wings of the morning, and live in the farthest parts of the sea,
even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me.
If I say, "Surely the darkness will cover me," even the night will be light around me.
Yes, the darkness does not hide anything from you. The night shines like the day. Darkness and light are both the same to you.
For you took hold of my inward parts. You covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise you, for I am made in a way that is fearful and wonderful. Your works are marvellous, and my soul knows that very well.
My body was not hidden from you when I was made in secret, and skilfully formed in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my body when it was still unformed. In your book all my parts were written down, which were shaped day by day, when as yet there was none of them.
How precious are your thoughts to me, O God. How great is the sum of them.
If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
Surely you will kill the wicked, O God. So go away from me, you men of blood.
For they speak against you wickedly, and your enemies use your name for nothing.
Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD? Am I not grieved with those who rise up against you?
I hate them with complete hatred. I count them my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart. Test me, and know my thoughts.
See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
