By the rivers of Babylon we sat down. There we wept, when we remembered Zion.
We hung up our harps on the willow trees there.
For there the men who carried us away captive asked us for a song. Those who destroyed us asked us to be merry, saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion."
How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?
If I forget you, Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill.
If I do not remember you, let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth; if I do not value Jerusalem above my greatest joy.
Remember, LORD, what the children of Edom did on the day of Jerusalem. They said, "Tear it down, tear it down, right to its foundation."
Daughter of Babylon, you who are to be destroyed, happy is the one who pays you back for what you have done to us.
Happy is the one who takes your little ones and throws them against the stones.
