Proverbs 31 - Summary

The words of King Lemuel from Massa, which his mother taught him: what are you doing, my son? Do not give your strength to women, your ways to those who destroy kings. It is not for kings to drink wine or crave strong drink. Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; defend the rights of the poor and needy. The chapter concludes with the poem of the excellent wife: who can find her? Her worth is far above jewels; her husband's heart trusts in her. She works with willing hands, rises while still night, provides food, considers fields and buys them, girds herself with strength, opens her hand to the poor and needy, is not afraid of snow, makes coverings, is clothed in strength and dignity, opens her mouth with wisdom. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
