He got into a ship, crossed over, and came to his own city.
Look, some people brought him a man who was paralysed, lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralysed man, "Son, be glad. Your sins are forgiven."
Look, some of the scribes said to themselves, "This man speaks against God."
Jesus knew what they were thinking. He said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts?"
Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'?
"But I want you to know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins." Then he said to the paralysed man, "Get up, pick up your bed, and go home."
And the man got up and went away to his house.
When the crowds saw it, they were amazed. They gave glory to God, who had given such power to people.
As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him.
Then, as Jesus sat eating in the house, look, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.
When the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, "Why does your Master eat with tax collectors and sinners?"
But when Jesus heard it, he said to them, "People who are well do not need a doctor. Sick people do."
"But go and learn what this means: 'I want mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repent."
Then the disciples of John came to him and said, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?"
Jesus said to them, "Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn while the bridegroom is still with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast."
No one sews a piece of new cloth onto an old coat. The new patch pulls away from the coat, and the tear is made worse.
"People do not put new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins burst, the wine runs out, and the skins are ruined. They put new wine into new wineskins, and both are kept safe."
While he was saying these things to them, look, a certain ruler came and worshipped him. He said, "My daughter has just died. But come and lay your hand on her, and she will live."
Jesus got up and followed him, and so did his disciples.
And look, a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years came up behind him. She touched the edge of his coat.
For she said to herself, "If I only touch his coat, I shall be made well."
But Jesus turned round, and when he saw her he said, "Daughter, take comfort. Your faith has made you well." And the woman was made well from that hour.
When Jesus came into the ruler's house, he saw the flute players and the people making a noise.
He said to them, "Move back. The girl is not dead, but asleep." And they laughed at him.
But when the people had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl got up.
And the news of this spread through all that land.
When Jesus left there, two blind men followed him, calling out, "You Son of David, have mercy on us."
When he had come into the house, the blind men came to him. Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to him, "Yes, Lord."
Then he touched their eyes and said, "Let it be done to you as you have believed."
And their eyes were opened. Jesus warned them sternly, "See that no one knows about this."
But when they had gone out, they spread the news about him through all that country.
As they went out, look, they brought to him a man who could not speak, who had a devil in him.
When the devil was driven out, the man who could not speak talked. The crowds were amazed and said, "Nothing like this was ever seen in Israel."
But the Pharisees said, "He drives out devils by the ruler of the devils."
Jesus went round all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
But when he saw the crowds, he was filled with compassion for them. They were worn out and scattered, like sheep with no shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest truly is great, but the workers are few."
"So pray to the Lord of the harvest, that he will send out workers into his harvest."
