If someone sins because he hears a public call to testify under oath, and he is a witness, having seen the matter or known about it, but he does not speak up, then he must bear his guilt.
Or if someone touches anything unclean, whether the dead body of an unclean wild animal, or the dead body of unclean livestock, or the dead body of unclean crawling creatures, and it is hidden from him, he also is unclean and guilty.
Or if he touches human uncleanness, whatever kind of uncleanness it may be that makes a person unclean, and it is hidden from him, then when he comes to know of it, he is guilty.
Or if someone swears an oath, speaking carelessly with his lips to do evil or to do good, whatever it is that a person may declare with an oath, and it is hidden from him, then when he comes to know of it, he is guilty in one of these ways.
So when he is guilty in one of these things, he must confess that he has sinned in that matter.
He must bring his trespass offering to the LORD for the sin he has committed: a female from the flock, a lamb or a young goat, as a sin offering. Then the priest will make atonement for him concerning his sin.
If he cannot afford a lamb, then for the wrong he has done he must bring to the LORD two turtledoves or two young pigeons: one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering.
He must bring them to the priest, who will offer the one for the sin offering first. He shall wring its head from its neck, but not divide it in two.
He shall sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar. The rest of the blood shall be drained out at the base of the altar. It is a sin offering.
He shall offer the second bird as a burnt offering, in the proper way. So the priest will make atonement for him for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven.
But if he cannot afford two turtledoves or two young pigeons, then the one who sinned must bring as his offering the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a sin offering. He shall put no oil on it, and he shall put no frankincense on it, for it is a sin offering.
He shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take a handful of it as a memorial portion and burn it on the altar, on top of the offerings made by fire to the LORD. It is a sin offering.
So the priest will make atonement for him for the sin he has committed in any of these ways, and he will be forgiven. The rest shall belong to the priest, as with the grain offering.
The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
"If someone commits a trespass and sins without knowing it, in any of the holy things of the LORD, then he must bring to the LORD as his trespass offering a ram from the flocks without any flaw, worth the value you set in silver shekels, by the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass offering."
"He must make up for the harm he has done to the holy thing, and add a fifth to it, and give it to the priest. Then the priest will make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering, and he will be forgiven."
"If someone sins and does any of the things which the LORD has commanded must not be done, even though he did not know it, he is still guilty, and he must bear his guilt."
"He must bring to the priest a ram from the flock without any flaw, worth the value you set, for a trespass offering. Then the priest will make atonement for him concerning the wrong he did without knowing it, and he will be forgiven."
"It is a trespass offering. He has certainly trespassed against the LORD."
