Jonah 2 - Summary

Original Summary

Read Jonah Chapter 2 Summary

From the belly of the fish, Jonah prays a psalm of thanksgiving recounting his near-death experience in the depths where seaweed wrapped around his head and the waters engulfed him to the point of death. The prophet acknowledges that although he was cast into the deep, overwhelmed by waves and billows, and descended to the very foundations of the mountains, the LORD brought his life up from the pit when his soul fainted within him. Jonah's vow to sacrifice with thanksgiving and fulfill what he has pledged climaxes in the confession 'Salvation belongs to the LORD,' whereupon God commands the fish to vomit him onto dry land.
