James 4 - Summary

Wars and fightings among believers stem from passions warring within their members - they desire, kill, covet, fight, yet have not because they ask not, or ask amiss to consume upon their lusts. Friendship with the world is enmity with God; therefore believers must submit to God, resist the devil, draw near to God, cleanse hands, purify hearts, and humble themselves before the Lord who will exalt them. The chapter concludes with warnings against presumptuous planning without acknowledging God's will and the solemn declaration that knowing good but failing to do it is sin.
