Isaiah 27 - Simple English

OriginalSimple EnglishSimpleNew Summary

Read Isaiah Chapter 27

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

1On that day the LORD will punish leviathan with his cruel and great and strong sword. He will punish leviathan the darting serpent, leviathan that twisting serpent. He will kill the dragon that is in the sea.

2On that day sing about her: "A vineyard of red wine."

3"I the LORD take care of it. I will water it every moment. So that no one harms it, I will guard it night and day."

4Fury is not in me. Who would set briers and thorns against me in battle? I would march through them and burn them all together.

5"Or let him take hold of my strength, so that he may make peace with me. Yes, let him make peace with me."

6He will make those who come from Jacob take root. Israel will blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.

7Has the LORD struck him as he struck those who struck him? Or was he killed as those he killed were killed?

8You dealt with it by measure, when you sent it away. He drove it off with his fierce blast in the day of the east wind.

9So by this the guilt of Jacob will be cleansed, and this will be all the fruit of taking away his sin: when he makes all the stones of the altar like chalkstones crushed to pieces, so that the groves and the images will not stand again.

10Yet the fortified city will be empty, the dwelling place deserted and left like a desert. There the calf will feed, and there it will lie down, and eat up its branches.

11When its boughs are dry, they will be broken off. The women come and set them on fire. For this is a people with no understanding. So he who made them will not have mercy on them, and he who formed them will show them no favour.

12On that day the LORD will thresh from the channel of the River to the stream of Egypt, and you will be gathered one by one, children of Israel.

13On that day the great trumpet will be blown. Those who were dying in the land of Assyria will come, and those who were driven out into the land of Egypt, and they will worship the LORD on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
