In the year that Tartan came to Ashdod, sent by Sargon the king of Assyria, he fought against Ashdod and took it.
At that time the LORD spoke through Isaiah the son of Amoz. He said, "Go and take the sackcloth off your body, and take your shoes off your feet." And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.
Then the LORD said, "My servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years. He is a sign and a wonder against Egypt and against Ethiopia."
In the same way the king of Assyria will lead away the Egyptians as prisoners and the Ethiopians as captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.
They will be afraid and ashamed, because of Ethiopia, which they hoped in, and of Egypt, which was their glory.
On that day the people who live along this coast will say, "Look, this is what has become of our hope. We ran to them for help, to be saved from the king of Assyria. How shall we escape?"
