Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

In the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations,

these kings made war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.

All these joined together in the valley of Siddim, which is the salt sea.

For twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer came, and the kings who were with him. They struck down the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim,

and the Horites in their mountain of Seir, as far as Elparan, which is beside the wilderness.

Then they turned back and came to Enmishpat, which is Kadesh. They struck down all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites who lived in Hazezontamar.

Then the king of Sodom went out, with the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is Zoar). They drew up for battle against them in the valley of Siddim,

against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of nations, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar: four kings against five.

The valley of Siddim was full of tar pits. The kings of Sodom and Gomorrah ran away, and fell there. The rest fled to the mountain.

The enemy took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their food, and went away.

They also took Lot, the son of Abram's brother, who lived in Sodom, and they took his goods, and left.

One man who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew. Abram was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, the brother of Eshcol and the brother of Aner. These men were allies of Abram.

When Abram heard that his brother's son had been taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen of them, and chased the enemy as far as Dan.

By night he divided his men against them, he and his servants, and he struck them, and chased them to Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.

He brought back all the goods. He also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, and the women too, and the people.

The king of Sodom went out to meet him after he came back from defeating Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him. They met at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's valley.

Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was the priest of the most high God.

He blessed Abram and said, "Blessed be Abram of the most high God, who owns heaven and earth."

"And blessed be the most high God, who has given your enemies into your hand." And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people, and take the goods for yourself."

But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have lifted up my hand to the LORD, the most high God, who owns heaven and earth,"

and I have sworn that I will not take a thread or even a shoelace, and that I will not take anything that is yours. You must never say, 'I made Abram rich.'

"I will take nothing except what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre. Let them take their share."
