If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God, and are careful to do all his commandments which I command you today, then the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.
All these blessings will come on you and overtake you, if you listen to the voice of the LORD your God.
You will be blessed in the city, and blessed in the field.
The fruit of your body will be blessed, and the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your cattle, the young of your herds, and the flocks of your sheep.
Your basket and your store of food will be blessed.
You will be blessed when you come in, and blessed when you go out.
The LORD will make your enemies who rise up against you be struck down in front of you. They will come out against you one way, and run away from you seven ways.
The LORD will command the blessing to rest on your storehouses, and on everything you put your hand to. He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
The LORD will make you a holy people for himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in his ways.
All the peoples of the earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will be afraid of you.
The LORD will give you plenty of good things: the fruit of your body, the fruit of your cattle, and the fruit of your ground, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you.
The LORD will open to you his good treasure, the sky, to give rain to your land at the right time, and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations, and you will not borrow.
The LORD will make you the head, and not the tail. You will be only above, and never underneath, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to do them.
Do not turn aside from any of the words I command you today, to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods and serve them.
But if you will not listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and are not careful to do all his commandments and his laws which I command you today, then all these curses will come upon you and overtake you.
You will be cursed in the city, and cursed in the field.
Your basket and your store of food will be cursed.
The fruit of your body will be cursed, and the fruit of your land, the young of your herds, and the flocks of your sheep.
You will be cursed when you come in, and cursed when you go out.
The LORD will send on you cursing, trouble and rebuke in everything you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed and quickly perish. This is because of the wickedness of what you have done, in leaving me.
The LORD will make the plague stick to you, until he has finished you off from the land you are going in to take.
The LORD will strike you with wasting disease, with fever, with swelling, with burning heat, with the sword, with blight and with mildew. They will chase you until you perish.
The sky over your head will be bronze, and the earth under you will be iron.
The LORD will turn the rain of your land into powder and dust. It will come down on you from the sky until you are destroyed.
The LORD will make you be struck down in front of your enemies. You will go out one way against them, and run away seven ways before them. You will be tossed about among all the kingdoms of the earth.
Your dead body will be food for all the birds of the air and the animals of the earth, and no one will frighten them away.
The LORD will strike you with the boils of Egypt, with tumours, with scabs and with itching, and you cannot be healed.
The LORD will strike you with madness, with blindness, and with confusion of heart.
You will feel your way at noon, as a blind man feels his way in the dark. You will not do well in your ways. You will only be crushed and robbed every day, and no one will save you.
You will be engaged to a wife, and another man will lie with her. You will build a house, and not live in it. You will plant a vineyard, and not gather its grapes.
Your ox will be killed before your eyes, and you will not eat any of it. Your donkey will be dragged away from you and never given back. Your sheep will be handed to your enemies, and you will have no one to rescue them.
Your sons and your daughters will be given to another people. Your eyes will look for them and grow weak with longing for them all day long, and your hand will have no power.
The fruit of your land and all your work a nation you do not know will eat up. You will only be crushed and beaten down always,
so that you will go mad at what your eyes see.
The LORD will strike you in the knees and in the legs with painful boils that cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the top of your head.
The LORD will bring you, and the king you set over you, to a nation which neither you nor your fathers have known. There you will serve other gods made of wood and stone.
You will become a horror, a proverb and a joke among all the nations where the LORD leads you.
You will carry much seed out to the field, and gather in only a little, for the locust will eat it.
You will plant vineyards and look after them, but you will not drink the wine or gather the grapes, for worms will eat them.
You will have olive trees through all your land, but you will not anoint yourself with the oil, for your olives will drop off.
You will have sons and daughters, but they will not be yours, for they will go away as captives.
The locust will take all your trees and the fruit of your land.
The foreigner who lives among you will rise higher and higher above you, and you will come down lower and lower.
He will lend to you, and you will not lend to him. He will be the head, and you will be the tail.
All these curses will come upon you. They will chase you and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you did not listen to the voice of the LORD your God, to keep his commandments and his laws which he commanded you.
They will be on you as a sign and a wonder, and on your children for ever.
Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and a glad heart, when you had plenty of everything,
you will serve your enemies, whom the LORD will send against you. You will be hungry, thirsty, naked, and in need of everything. He will put a yoke of iron on your neck, until he has destroyed you.
The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the earth, swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand:
a nation with a fierce face, who will show no respect to the old, and no kindness to the young.
He will eat the fruit of your cattle and the fruit of your land, until you are destroyed. He will leave you no corn, no wine, no oil, no young of your herds, no flocks of your sheep, until he has destroyed you.
He will besiege you in all your towns, until your high, strong walls come down, the walls you trusted in, all through your land. He will besiege you in all your towns, all through your land which the LORD your God has given you.
You will eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and your daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you, in the siege and in the hard need with which your enemies will press you.
The man among you who is gentle and very refined will look with a hard eye on his brother, on the wife he loves, and on the rest of his children who are still alive.
He will not give any of them any of the flesh of his children which he is eating, because he has nothing left, in the siege and in the hard need with which your enemies will press you in all your towns.
The gentle and refined woman among you, who would not dare to put the sole of her foot on the ground, she was so delicate and gentle, will look with a hard eye on the husband she loves, and on her son and her daughter,
and on the baby that comes out from between her feet, and on the children she bears. For she will eat them in secret, because she has nothing else, in the siege and the hard need with which your enemy will press you in your towns.
If you will not be careful to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, so that you fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD YOUR GOD,
then the LORD will make your plagues terrible, and the plagues of your children too: great plagues that last a long time, and cruel sicknesses that last a long time.
He will also bring on you all the diseases of Egypt, which you were afraid of, and they will stick to you.
And every sickness and every plague which is not written in the book of this law, the LORD will bring on you, until you are destroyed.
You will be left few in number, though you were as many as the stars of heaven, because you would not obey the voice of the LORD your God.
And just as the LORD took delight in doing you good and making you many, so the LORD will take delight in destroying you and bringing you to nothing. You will be pulled up out of the land you are going in to take.
The LORD will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will serve other gods, made of wood and stone, which neither you nor your fathers have known.
Among those nations you will find no ease, and the sole of your foot will have no rest. There the LORD will give you a trembling heart, failing eyes, and a sorrowful mind.
Your life will hang in doubt in front of you. You will be afraid night and day, and have no sureness of your life.
In the morning you will say, "If only it were evening," and in the evening you will say, "If only it were morning," because of the fear in your heart and what your eyes will see.
The LORD will bring you back to Egypt in ships, by the way I told you that you would never see again. There you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, and no one will buy you.
