Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

After this, David attacked the Philistines and brought them under his control. David took Methegammah out of the hand of the Philistines.

He also attacked Moab. He made the people lie down on the ground and measured them with a line. He measured two lines of them to be put to death, and one full line to be kept alive. So the Moabites became David's servants and brought him gifts.

David also attacked Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as Hadadezer went to take back his border at the river Euphrates.

David took from him a thousand chariots, seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. David cut the leg tendons of all the chariot horses, but he kept enough of them for a hundred chariots.

When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David killed twenty-two thousand of the Syrians.

Then David put groups of soldiers in Syria of Damascus. The Syrians became David's servants and brought him gifts. And the LORD kept David safe wherever he went.

David took the gold shields that belonged to the servants of Hadadezer, and he brought them to Jerusalem.

From Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took a very great amount of brass.

Toi king of Hamath heard that David had struck down the whole army of Hadadezer.

So Toi sent his son Joram to king David, to greet him and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and beaten him. For Hadadezer had been at war with Toi. Joram brought with him objects of silver, objects of gold, and objects of brass.

King David set these apart for the LORD too, along with the silver and gold he had set apart from all the nations he had brought under his control:

from Syria, from Moab, from the children of Ammon, from the Philistines, from Amalek, and from the goods taken from Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

David made a name for himself when he came back from striking down the Syrians in the valley of salt. They were eighteen thousand men.

He put groups of soldiers in Edom. All through Edom he put soldiers, and all the people of Edom became David's servants. And the LORD kept David safe wherever he went.

David ruled over all Israel. He judged his people and did what was right and just for them all.

Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army. Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud kept the records.

Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were the priests. Seraiah was the scribe.

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites. And David's sons were chief rulers.
