But Solomon was thirteen years building his own house, and he finished all of it.
He also built the House of the Forest of Lebanon. It was a hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high. It stood on four rows of cedar pillars, with cedar beams resting on the pillars.
It was roofed with cedar above the beams, which lay on forty-five pillars, fifteen in a row.
There were windows in three rows, and window faced window in three ranks.
All the doors and door posts were square, with the windows. And window faced window in three ranks.
He made a porch of pillars. It was fifty cubits long and thirty cubits wide. The porch was in front of them, and the other pillars and the thick beam were in front of them.
Then he made a porch for the throne where he would judge, the porch of judgment. It was covered with cedar from one side of the floor to the other.
His own house, where he lived, had another court inside the porch, made in the same way. Solomon also made a house like this porch for Pharaoh's daughter, whom he had married.
All these were made of costly stones, cut to measure, sawed with saws inside and outside, from the foundation up to the coping, and so also on the outside toward the great court.
The foundation was of costly stones, great stones: stones of ten cubits and stones of eight cubits.
Above them were costly stones, cut to measure, and cedar wood.
The great court all around had three rows of cut stones and a row of cedar beams. So also did the inner court of the house of the LORD, and the porch of the house.
King Solomon sent and brought Hiram from Tyre.
He was the son of a widow of the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass. He was filled with wisdom, understanding and skill to do any work in brass. He came to King Solomon and did all his work.
He cast two pillars of brass, each eighteen cubits high. A line of twelve cubits went around each of them.
He made two capitals of cast brass to set on the tops of the pillars. One capital was five cubits high, and the other capital was five cubits high.
He made nets of checker work and wreaths of chain work for the capitals on the top of the pillars: seven for the one capital and seven for the other capital.
He made the pillars, and two rows all around on the one network, to cover the capitals that were on the top, with pomegranates. He did the same for the other capital.
The capitals on the top of the pillars in the porch were lily work, four cubits.
The capitals on the two pillars also had pomegranates above, close to the rounded part beside the network. There were two hundred pomegranates in rows all around on the other capital.
He set up the pillars in the porch of the temple. He set up the right pillar and called it Jachin, and he set up the left pillar and called it Boaz.
On the top of the pillars was lily work. So the work of the pillars was finished.
He made a cast metal sea, ten cubits from one brim to the other. It was round all about, and five cubits high. A line of thirty cubits went around it.
Under its brim, all around it, were knops, ten to a cubit, going all around the sea. The knops were cast in two rows when the sea was cast.
It stood on twelve oxen: three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east. The sea was set on top of them, and all their hind parts faced inward.
It was a hand's breadth thick, and its brim was shaped like the brim of a cup, like the flower of a lily. It held two thousand baths.
He made ten bases of brass. Each base was four cubits long, four cubits wide, and three cubits high.
The bases were made in this way: they had panels, and the panels were set between the ledges.
On the panels between the ledges were lions, oxen and cherubim. On the ledges there was a base above, and below the lions and oxen were wreaths of hammered work.
Every base had four brass wheels and plates of brass. Its four corners had supports, and under the laver were cast supports, beside each wreath.
Its opening, inside the capital and above it, was a cubit. The opening was round, made like a base, a cubit and a half. On the opening also there were carvings with their panels, square, not round.
Under the panels were four wheels, and the axles of the wheels were joined to the base. Each wheel was a cubit and a half high.
The wheels were made like a chariot wheel. Their axles, their hubs, their rims and their spokes were all cast metal.
There were four supports at the four corners of each base, and the supports were part of the base itself.
At the top of the base there was a round band half a cubit high. At the top of the base, its ledges and its panels were all of one piece with it.
On the plates of its ledges and on its panels he carved cherubim, lions and palm trees, as much as there was room for each, with wreaths all around.
In this way he made the ten bases. All of them were cast alike, of one measure and one size.
Then he made ten lavers of brass. Each laver held forty baths, and each laver was four cubits across. There was one laver on each of the ten bases.
He put five bases on the right side of the house and five on the left side of the house. He set the sea on the right side of the house, toward the east, opposite the south.
Hiram made the lavers, the shovels and the basins. So Hiram finished all the work that he did for King Solomon for the house of the LORD:
the two pillars; the two bowls of the capitals that were on the top of the two pillars; the two networks to cover the two bowls of the capitals on the top of the pillars;
the four hundred pomegranates for the two networks, two rows of pomegranates for each network, to cover the two bowls of the capitals on the pillars;
the ten bases, and the ten lavers on the bases;
the one sea, and the twelve oxen under the sea;
the pots, the shovels and the basins. All these vessels, which Hiram made for King Solomon for the house of the LORD, were of polished brass.
The king cast them in the plain of Jordan, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zarthan.
Solomon left all the vessels unweighed, because there were so very many. The weight of the brass was never found out.
Solomon made all the vessels that belonged to the house of the LORD: the altar of gold; the table of gold, where the showbread was;
the lampstands of pure gold, five on the right side and five on the left, in front of the inner room; and the flowers, the lamps and the tongs of gold;
the bowls, the snuffers, the basins, the spoons and the censers of pure gold; and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the house, that is, of the temple.
