Romans 5 - Summary

Original Summary

Read Romans Chapter 5 Summary

Paul expounds the benefits flowing from justification by faith: peace with God, access to grace, hope of glory, and the ability to rejoice even in tribulations that produce perseverance and proven character. He develops the Adam-Christ typology, contrasting the reign of death through Adam's transgression with the superabundant gift of righteousness through Jesus Christ, demonstrating that where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.

The scribe breaks the fourth wall

Paul dictated Romans to a scribe. Near the end, that scribe suddenly speaks up in his own voice: 'I, Tertius, who wrote down this letter, greet you in the Lord' (Romans 16:22). A brief, human 'fourth-wall' moment slipped right into Scripture.
