Read Revelation Chapter 9

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

Then the fifth angel sounded his trumpet. I saw a star fall from heaven to the earth. He was given the key of the bottomless pit.

He opened the bottomless pit, and smoke rose out of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace. The sun and the air were made dark by the smoke of the pit.

Out of the smoke came locusts onto the earth. They were given power like the power that scorpions have on the earth.

They were told not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree. They were to harm only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

They were not allowed to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the pain of a scorpion when it stings a man.

In those days people will look for death, and will not find it. They will long to die, and death will run away from them.

The locusts looked like horses ready for battle. On their heads were what looked like crowns of gold, and their faces were like human faces.

Their hair was like the hair of women, and their teeth were like the teeth of lions.

They had breastplates that seemed to be made of iron. The sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses rushing into battle.

They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to harm people for five months.

They had a king over them, the angel of the bottomless pit. In the Hebrew language his name is Abaddon, and in the Greek language his name is Apollyon.

One woe is past. Look, two more woes are still to come.

Then the sixth angel sounded his trumpet. I heard a voice coming from the four horns of the golden altar that stands before God.

It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, "Set free the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates."

So the four angels were set free. They had been kept ready for that hour, and day, and month, and year, to kill a third of the people.

The number of the army of horsemen was two hundred thousand thousand. I heard their number.

This is how I saw the horses in the vision, and those who sat on them. They had breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and of brimstone. The heads of the horses were like the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire and smoke and brimstone.

By these three a third of the people were killed: by the fire, by the smoke, and by the brimstone that came out of their mouths.

For their power is in their mouths and in their tails. Their tails were like snakes, and had heads, and with them they do harm.

The rest of the people, who were not killed by these plagues, still did not repent of the works of their hands. They did not stop worshipping demons, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk.

They did not repent of their murders, or of their witchcraft, or of their sexual sin, or of their thefts.
