Listen to my prayer, O God. Do not hide yourself when I beg you.
Pay attention to me, and answer me. I mourn as I make my complaint, and I cry out,
because of the voice of the enemy, because the wicked crush me. They pile trouble on me, and in anger they hate me.
My heart is in great pain inside me. The terrors of death have fallen on me.
Fear and trembling have come over me, and horror has covered me.
And I said, "If only I had wings like a dove. Then I would fly away and be at rest."
Look, I would wander far off, and stay in the wilderness. Selah.
"I would hurry to escape from the raging wind and storm."
Destroy them, O Lord, and confuse their speech. For I have seen violence and fighting in the city.
Day and night they go around it on its walls. Trouble and sorrow are inside it.
Wickedness is inside it. Lies and cheating never leave its streets.
It was not an enemy who insulted me; I could have borne that. It was not someone who hated me who rose up against me; I could have hidden from him.
But it was you, a man like myself, my guide, and my friend.
We talked together happily, and walked with the crowd to the house of God.
Let death take hold of them. Let them go down alive into hell, for wickedness is in their homes and among them.
As for me, I will call on God, and the LORD will save me.
Evening, and morning, and at noon I will pray and cry aloud, and he will hear my voice.
He has rescued me in peace from the battle that was against me, for there were many fighting me.
God will hear, and will bring them low, he who has been enthroned from of old. Selah. They never change, and so they do not fear God.
He has attacked those who were at peace with him. He has broken his covenant.
The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.
Put your burden on the LORD, and he will hold you up. He will never let the righteous be shaken.
But you, O God, will bring them down into the pit of destruction. Murderous and lying men will not live out half their days. But I will trust in you.
