Read Nahum Chapter 1

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

God is jealous, and the LORD takes revenge. The LORD takes revenge and is furious. The LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he keeps his wrath for his enemies.

The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, and he will never let the wicked go free. The LORD makes his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

He rebukes the sea and makes it dry, and he dries up all the rivers. Bashan and Carmel wither, and the flower of Lebanon withers.

The mountains shake before him, and the hills melt. The earth is burned at his presence, yes, the world and all who live in it.

Who can stand before his anger? Who can endure the heat of his anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and he throws down the rocks.

The LORD is good, a strong place of safety in the day of trouble. He knows those who trust in him.

But with a flood that sweeps over it he will make a full end of its place, and darkness will chase his enemies.

What are you plotting against the LORD? He will make a full end. Trouble will not rise up a second time.

For while they are tangled together like thorns, and while they are drunk like drunkards, they will be eaten up like dry stubble.

One has come out from you who plots evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.

This is what the LORD says: "Though they are quiet, and also many, yet they will be cut down when he passes through. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more."

"For now I will break his yoke from off you, and I will snap your chains apart."

The LORD has given a command about you: "No more of your name will be sown. Out of the house of your gods I will cut off the carved image and the cast image. I will make your grave, for you are vile."

Look, on the mountains, the feet of the one who brings good news, who proclaims peace! Judah, keep your solemn feasts, carry out your vows. For the wicked will never pass through you again; he is completely cut off.
