"Be careful not to do your good giving in front of other people, so that they will watch you. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven."
"So when you give to the poor, do not blow a trumpet in front of you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that people will praise them. I tell you the truth, they have their reward."
"But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing."
"Then your giving will be in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will himself reward you openly."
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. They love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners, so that people will see them. I tell you the truth, they have their reward."
"But when you pray, go into your room. Shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you openly."
"When you pray, do not say the same empty words over and over, as the heathen do. They think they will be heard because they say so much."
"So do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him."
"So pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be held holy."
"Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven."
"Give us today our daily bread."
"And forgive us our debts, as we forgive those who owe us."
"And do not lead us into temptation, but save us from evil. For the kingdom is yours, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."
"For if you forgive other people the wrongs they do, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."
"But if you do not forgive other people their wrongs, your Father will not forgive your wrongs either."
"And when you fast, do not look sad, as the hypocrites do. They spoil the look of their faces, so that people will see that they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have their reward."
"But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face."
"Then people will not see that you are fasting, but your Father, who is in secret, will see. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you openly."
"Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth. Here moths and rust destroy them, and thieves break in and steal them."
"Instead, store up treasures for yourselves in heaven. There no moth and no rust destroy them, and no thieves break in and steal them."
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be too."
"The eye is the light of the body. So if your eye is single, your whole body will be full of light."
"But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light in you is darkness, how great that darkness is."
"No one can serve two masters. He will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and think little of the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."
"So I tell you, do not worry about your life, about what you will eat or what you will drink. Do not worry about your body, about what you will wear. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothes?"
"Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow, or reap, or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they are?"
"Which of you can add one cubit to his height by worrying?"
"And why do you worry about clothes? Think about the lilies of the field, and how they grow. They do not work hard, and they do not spin thread."
"Yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these."
"So if God dresses the grass of the field like that, which is here today and thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more give clothes to you, you who have so little faith?"
"So do not worry, and do not say, 'What shall we eat?' or, 'What shall we drink?' or, 'What shall we wear?'"
"For the Gentiles run after all these things. Your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things."
"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
"So do not worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will worry about its own things. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
