The LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron. He said to them,

"Speak to the children of Israel and say, 'These are the creatures you may eat, out of all the animals that are on the earth."

"'Among the animals, you may eat any that has a split hoof, divided in two, and that chews the cud."

"'But of those that chew the cud, or that have a split hoof, you must not eat these: the camel, because it chews the cud but its hoof is not split. It is unclean for you."

"'And the coney, because it chews the cud but its hoof is not split. It is unclean for you."

"'And the hare, because it chews the cud but its hoof is not split. It is unclean for you."

"'And the pig, because its hoof is split and divided in two, but it does not chew the cud. It is unclean for you."

"'You must not eat their flesh, and you must not touch their dead bodies. They are unclean for you."

"'Of all that live in the waters, you may eat these: whatever has fins and scales in the waters, in the seas and in the rivers, those you may eat."

"'But everything in the seas and in the rivers that has no fins and scales, among all that move in the waters and all the living things in the waters, they are detestable to you."

"'They are to be detestable to you. You must not eat their flesh, and you must treat their dead bodies as detestable."

"'Whatever has no fins or scales in the waters is detestable to you."

"'These are the birds you must treat as detestable. They must not be eaten, for they are detestable: the eagle, the ossifrage, the ospray,"

"'the vulture, and every kind of kite,"

"'every kind of raven,"

"'the owl, the night hawk, the cuckow, and every kind of hawk,"

"'the little owl, the cormorant, the great owl,"

"'the swan, the pelican, the gier eagle,"

"'the stork, every kind of heron, the lapwing, and the bat."

"'All winged creatures that creep about on all four feet are detestable to you."

"'Yet of all the winged creeping things that go on all four feet, you may eat these: the ones that have legs joined above their feet, for leaping on the ground."

"'You may eat these of them: every kind of locust, every kind of bald locust, every kind of beetle, and every kind of grasshopper."

"'But all other flying creeping things that have four feet are detestable to you."

"'By these you will become unclean. Whoever touches their dead bodies will be unclean until evening."

"'And whoever carries any part of their dead bodies must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean until evening."

"'The dead bodies of every animal that has a hoof, but not split in two, and does not chew the cud, are unclean for you. Everyone who touches them will be unclean."

"'Among all the animals that go on all four feet, those that go on their paws are unclean for you. Whoever touches their dead bodies will be unclean until evening."

"'And the one who carries their dead bodies must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean until evening. They are unclean for you."

"'Among the creeping things that creep on the earth, these are unclean for you: the weasel, the mouse, and every kind of tortoise,"

"'the ferret, the chameleon, the lizard, the snail, and the mole."

"'Among all that creep, these are unclean for you. Whoever touches them when they are dead will be unclean until evening."

"'Anything that one of them falls on when it is dead will be unclean. This is true of any vessel of wood, or clothing, or skin, or sack. Whatever vessel it is that work is done with, it must be put into water, and it will be unclean until evening. Then it will be clean."

"'If any of them falls into a clay pot, everything in it will be unclean, and you must break the pot."

"'Any food that may be eaten, if such water comes on it, will be unclean. And any drink that may be drunk from any such vessel will be unclean."

"'Anything that any part of their dead bodies falls on will be unclean. Whether it is an oven or a stand for pots, it must be broken down. They are unclean, and they will be unclean for you."

"'But a spring or a pit where there is plenty of water will stay clean. Yet whatever touches their dead bodies will be unclean."

"'If any part of their dead bodies falls on any seed for sowing, that seed is clean."

"'But if water has been put on the seed, and any part of their dead bodies falls on it, it is unclean for you."

"'If any animal that you may eat dies, whoever touches its dead body will be unclean until evening."

"'The one who eats any of its dead body must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean until evening. The one who carries its dead body must also wash his clothes, and he will be unclean until evening."

"'Every creeping thing that creeps on the earth is detestable. It must not be eaten."

"'Whatever goes on its belly, and whatever goes on all four feet, and whatever has many feet, among all the creeping things that creep on the earth, you must not eat them, for they are detestable."

"'Do not make yourselves detestable with any creeping thing that creeps. Do not make yourselves unclean with them, so that you become defiled by them."

"'For I am the LORD your God. So set yourselves apart, and be holy, for I am holy. Do not defile yourselves with any kind of creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

"'For I am the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. So you must be holy, for I am holy."

"'This is the law about the animals, and the birds, and every living creature that moves in the waters, and every creature that creeps on the earth."

"'It is to make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the creature that may be eaten and the creature that may not be eaten.'"
