Read Job Chapter 39

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

"Do you know the time when the wild goats of the rock give birth? Can you watch when the deer have their young?"

Can you count the months that they complete? Do you know the time when they give birth?

They bow themselves down, they bring forth their young, and their pains are over.

Their young ones are strong and well; they grow up in the open field. They go away, and do not come back to them.

Who set the wild donkey free? Who loosed the ropes of the wild donkey?

I have made the wilderness his house, and the salty land his home.

He laughs at the crowds of the city. He pays no attention to the shouting of the driver.

The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searches for every green thing.

Will the unicorn be willing to serve you, or stay beside your feeding trough?

Can you tie the unicorn with his rope in the furrow? Will he break up the valleys behind you?

Will you trust him, because his strength is great? Will you leave your work to him?

Will you believe him, that he will bring home your grain, and gather it into your barn?

Did you give the fine wings to the peacocks? Or wings and feathers to the ostrich?

She leaves her eggs in the earth, and lets the dust keep them warm.

She forgets that a foot may crush them, or that a wild animal may break them.

She is hard toward her young, as if they were not hers. She does not care that her labour is wasted.

For God has kept wisdom from her, and has not given her understanding.

But when she lifts herself up and runs, she laughs at the horse and his rider.

Did you give the horse his strength? Did you clothe his neck with thunder?

Can you make him leap like a grasshopper? The snorting of his nostrils is terrifying.

He paws the ground in the valley, and delights in his strength. He goes out to meet the armed men.

He laughs at fear, and is not afraid. He does not turn back from the sword.

The quiver rattles against him, with the flashing spear and the shield.

He swallows the ground with fierceness and rage. He cannot be held when the trumpet sounds.

Among the trumpets he says, "Ha, ha." He smells the battle far away, the thunder of the commanders, and the shouting.

Does the hawk fly by your wisdom, and spread her wings toward the south?

Does the eagle go up at your command, and make her nest high above?

She lives and stays on the rock, on the crag of the rock, in a strong place.

From there she looks for her prey, and her eyes see it far away.

"Her young ones also drink blood, and where the dead bodies are, there she is."
