Isaiah 52 - Simple English

OriginalSimple EnglishSimpleNew Summary

Read Isaiah Chapter 52

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

1Awake, awake; put on your strength, Zion. Put on your beautiful clothes, Jerusalem, the holy city. For from now on no one who is uncircumcised or unclean will come into you again.

2Shake the dust off yourself; get up and sit down, Jerusalem. Loosen the ropes from your neck, captive daughter of Zion.

3For this is what the LORD says: "You sold yourselves for nothing, and you will be redeemed without money."

4For this is what the Lord GOD says: "Long ago my people went down into Egypt to live there as strangers. And the Assyrian crushed them for no reason."

5"So what do I have here now," says the LORD, "since my people have been carried away for nothing? Those who rule over them make them cry out," says the LORD, "and my name is insulted all day long, without stopping."

6"So my people will know my name. In that day they will know that I am the one who speaks. Look, it is I."

7How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the one who brings good news, who announces peace; who brings good news of good things, who announces salvation; who says to Zion, "Your God reigns."

8Your watchmen lift up their voice; together they sing aloud. For they will see eye to eye, when the LORD brings Zion back again.

9Burst out with joy, sing together, you ruined places of Jerusalem. For the LORD has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem.

10The LORD has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations. And all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.

11Go away, go away, come out from there, touch nothing unclean. Come out from among her. Be clean, you who carry the vessels of the LORD.

12For you will not go out in a hurry, nor leave as those who run away. For the LORD will go before you, and the God of Israel will guard you from behind.

13Look, my servant will act wisely. He will be lifted up and praised, and will be very high.

14Many were shocked when they saw you. His face was ruined more than any man's, and his form more than that of the sons of men.

15So he will sprinkle many nations. Kings will shut their mouths because of him. For they will see what they were never told, and they will think about what they had never heard.
