2 Peter 3 - Summary

Original Summary

Read 2 Peter Chapter 3 Summary

In this second letter Peter stirs pure minds to remember the prophets' words and apostles' commandments; scoffers will come in last days questioning Christ's return since creation seems unchanged, willfully ignoring that by God's word the heavens and earth were made and the former world was destroyed by water. The present heavens and earth are reserved for fire at judgment day; one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and He is not slack but longsuffering, not willing that any perish but that all come to repentance. The Day of the Lord will come as a thief with heavens passing away, elements melting, earth burned up—therefore believers should be holy, looking for new heavens and earth wherein dwells righteousness, growing in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
