Corinthians 5 - Simple English

OriginalSimple EnglishSimpleNew Summary

Read 1 Corinthians Chapter 5

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

It is widely reported that there is sexual sin among you. It is a kind of sin that is not even spoken of among the Gentiles: that a man has his father's wife.

And you are proud of yourselves. You should rather have mourned, so that the man who has done this thing might be removed from among you.

For though I am absent in body, I am present in spirit. I have already judged the man who has done this, as if I were there with you.

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, and my spirit is with you, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

you are to hand such a man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?

So clear out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you are unleavened. For Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.

So let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

I wrote to you in a letter not to keep company with people who commit sexual sin.

I did not mean the sexually immoral people of this world in general, or the greedy, or those who cheat others, or those who worship idols. If that were so, you would have to leave the world.

But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone who is called a brother if he commits sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or abuses others with words, or is a drunkard, or cheats others. With such a person you are not even to eat.

For what business is it of mine to judge those who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside?

But God judges those who are outside. So put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
