Read 1 Corinthians Chapter 11

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

Follow my example, just as I follow the example of Christ.

Now I praise you, brothers and sisters, because you remember me in everything, and you keep the teachings just as I passed them on to you.

But I want you to know this: the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.

Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonours his head.

But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonours her head. It is just the same as if her head were shaved.

If a woman will not cover her head, then let her hair be cut off. But if it is a shame for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, let her cover her head.

A man should not cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God. But the woman is the glory of the man.

For the man did not come from the woman, but the woman from the man.

And the man was not created for the woman, but the woman for the man.

For this reason the woman ought to have power on her head, because of the angels.

Even so, in the Lord the man is not without the woman, and the woman is not without the man.

For as the woman came from the man, so the man is born through the woman. But all things come from God.

Judge for yourselves: is it fitting for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

Does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a shame to him?

But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her. For her hair is given to her as a covering.

But if anyone wants to argue about this, we have no such custom, and neither do the churches of God.

Now in what I am telling you, I do not praise you. When you meet together, it is not for the better but for the worse.

First of all, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you. And I partly believe it.

For there must be factions among you, so that those who are approved may be seen clearly among you.

So when you come together in one place, it is not the Lord's supper that you eat.

For as you eat, each one takes his own supper before the others. One is hungry, and another is drunk.

What? Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God, and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you.

For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: that the Lord Jesus, on the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread.

When he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "Take, eat. This is my body, which is broken for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

In the same way he also took the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."

For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you show the Lord's death until he comes.

So then, whoever eats this bread and drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy way will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

Let a person examine himself, and then let him eat of that bread and drink of that cup.

For anyone who eats and drinks in an unworthy way eats and drinks judgment on himself, because he does not discern the Lord's body.

For this reason many among you are weak and ill, and many have fallen asleep.

For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.

But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord, so that we will not be condemned with the world.

So then, my brothers and sisters, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.

And if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you do not come together for judgment. I will set the rest in order when I come.
