ALEPH. Happy are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD.
Happy are those who keep his testimonies, and who seek him with their whole heart.
They also do no wrong: they walk in his ways.
You have commanded us to keep your precepts with care.
How I wish my ways were steady in keeping your statutes.
Then I will not be ashamed, when I pay attention to all your commandments.
I will praise you with an honest heart, when I have learned your righteous judgments.
I will keep your statutes. Do not leave me completely alone.
BETH. How can a young man keep his way clean? By watching it, and following your word.
With my whole heart I have sought you. Do not let me wander from your commandments.
I have hidden your word in my heart, so that I will not sin against you.
Blessed are you, LORD: teach me your statutes.
With my lips I have told out all the judgments of your mouth.
I have rejoiced in the way of your testimonies, as much as in all riches.
I will think deeply on your precepts, and pay attention to your ways.
I will delight myself in your statutes. I will not forget your word.
GIMEL. Be generous to your servant, so that I may live and keep your word.
Open my eyes, so that I may see wonderful things in your law.
I am a stranger on the earth. Do not hide your commandments from me.
My soul is worn out with longing for your judgments at all times.
You have rebuked the proud, who are cursed, and who stray from your commandments.
Take away from me their insults and contempt, for I have kept your testimonies.
Princes also sat and spoke against me, but your servant thought deeply on your statutes.
Your testimonies are also my delight and my counsellors.
DALETH. My soul clings to the dust. Give me life, as your word promises.
I have told you my ways, and you answered me. Teach me your statutes.
Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will talk of your wonderful works.
My soul melts away with sorrow. Strengthen me, as your word promises.
Take the way of lying far from me, and in your grace give me your law.
I have chosen the way of truth. I have set your judgments before me.
I have held fast to your testimonies. LORD, do not put me to shame.
I will run in the way of your commandments, when you set my heart free.
HE. Teach me, LORD, the way of your statutes, and I will keep it to the end.
Give me understanding, and I will keep your law. Yes, I will obey it with my whole heart.
Make me walk in the path of your commandments, for in it I delight.
Turn my heart to your testimonies, and not to greed.
Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things, and give me life in your way.
Make your word firm for your servant, who is devoted to fearing you.
Turn away the shame that I fear, for your judgments are good.
Look, I have longed for your precepts. Give me life in your righteousness.
VAU. Let your mercies come to me also, LORD, even your salvation, as your word promises,
so that I will have an answer for the one who insults me, for I trust in your word.
Do not take the word of truth out of my mouth completely, for I have hoped in your judgments.
So I will keep your law continually, for ever and ever.
And I will walk in freedom, for I seek your precepts.
I will speak of your testimonies before kings, and will not be ashamed.
And I will delight myself in your commandments, which I have loved.
I will lift up my hands to your commandments, which I have loved, and I will think deeply on your statutes.
ZAIN. Remember the word you spoke to your servant, on which you have made me hope.
This is my comfort in my suffering: your word has given me life.
The proud have mocked me greatly, yet I have not turned aside from your law.
I remembered your judgments from long ago, LORD, and I have comforted myself.
Horror has taken hold of me because of the wicked, who abandon your law.
Your statutes have been my songs in the house where I live as a stranger.
I have remembered your name in the night, LORD, and have kept your law.
This has been mine, because I kept your precepts.
CHETH. You are my portion, LORD. I have said that I would keep your words.
I begged for your favour with my whole heart. Be merciful to me, as your word promises.
I thought about my ways, and turned my feet to your testimonies.
I hurried, and did not delay to keep your commandments.
Bands of wicked men have robbed me, but I have not forgotten your law.
At midnight I will get up to give thanks to you, because of your righteous judgments.
I am a friend to all who fear you, and to those who keep your precepts.
The earth, LORD, is full of your mercy. Teach me your statutes.
TETH. You have dealt well with your servant, LORD, as your word promised.
Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I have believed your commandments.
Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I have kept your word.
You are good, and you do good. Teach me your statutes.
The proud have made up a lie about me, but I will keep your precepts with my whole heart.
Their heart is as fat as grease, but I delight in your law.
It is good for me that I have been afflicted, so that I might learn your statutes.
The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.
JOD. Your hands have made me and shaped me. Give me understanding, so that I may learn your commandments.
Those who fear you will be glad when they see me, because I have hoped in your word.
I know, LORD, that your judgments are right, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
Please let your merciful kindness be my comfort, as you promised your servant.
Let your tender mercies come to me, so that I may live, for your law is my delight.
Let the proud be ashamed, for they wronged me without cause. But I will think deeply on your precepts.
Let those who fear you turn to me, and those who have known your testimonies.
Let my heart be sound in your statutes, so that I am not ashamed.
CAPH. My soul grows faint waiting for your salvation, but I hope in your word.
My eyes fail, looking for your word. I say, "When will you comfort me?"
For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke, yet I do not forget your statutes.
How many are the days of your servant? When will you bring judgment on those who persecute me?
The proud have dug pits for me, which is not in keeping with your law.
All your commandments are faithful. They persecute me wrongfully. Help me.
They had almost destroyed me on the earth, but I did not abandon your precepts.
Give me life, in keeping with your loving kindness, and I will keep the testimony of your mouth.
LAMED. For ever, LORD, your word stands firm in heaven.
Your faithfulness lasts through all generations. You set the earth in place, and it stands.
They continue to this day by your rules, for all things are your servants.
If your law had not been my delight, I would have died in my suffering.
I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life.
I am yours; save me, for I have sought your precepts.
The wicked have waited for me, to destroy me, but I will think about your testimonies.
I have seen a limit to all perfection, but your commandment is very wide.
MEM. Oh, how I love your law. I think about it all day long.
Through your commandments you have made me wiser than my enemies, for they are always with me.
I have more understanding than all my teachers, for I think deeply on your testimonies.
I understand more than the old men, because I keep your precepts.
I have kept my feet from every evil way, so that I might keep your word.
I have not turned away from your judgments, for you have taught me.
How sweet your words are to my taste; yes, sweeter than honey in my mouth.
Through your precepts I gain understanding. So I hate every false way.
NUN. Your word is a lamp for my feet, and a light for my path.
I have made an oath, and I will keep it: I will obey your righteous judgments.
I am afflicted very much. Give me life, LORD, as your word promises.
Accept, I beg you, the freewill offerings of my mouth, LORD, and teach me your judgments.
My life is always in my hand, yet I do not forget your law.
The wicked have set a trap for me, yet I have not strayed from your precepts.
I have taken your testimonies as my inheritance for ever, for they are the joy of my heart.
I have set my heart to carry out your statutes always, right to the end.
SAMECH. I hate divided thoughts, but I love your law.
You are my hiding place and my shield. I hope in your word.
Go away from me, you evildoers, for I will keep the commandments of my God.
Hold me up, as your word promises, so that I may live. Do not let my hope end in shame.
Hold me up, and I will be safe, and I will always pay attention to your statutes.
You have trampled down all who stray from your statutes, for their trickery is a lie.
You throw away all the wicked of the earth like waste metal. So I love your testimonies.
My body trembles from fear of you, and I am afraid of your judgments.
AIN. I have done what is just and right. Do not leave me to those who oppress me.
Promise good for your servant. Do not let the proud oppress me.
My eyes fail, looking for your salvation and for the word of your righteousness.
Deal with your servant according to your mercy, and teach me your statutes.
I am your servant. Give me understanding, so that I may know your testimonies.
It is time for you to act, LORD, for they have broken your law.
So I love your commandments more than gold; yes, more than fine gold.
So I count all your precepts about all things to be right, and I hate every false way.
PE. Your testimonies are wonderful. That is why my soul keeps them.
The opening of your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple.
I opened my mouth and panted, for I longed for your commandments.
Look at me, and be merciful to me, as you always do to those who love your name.
Guide my steps by your word, and do not let any sin rule over me.
Rescue me from the oppression of man, and I will keep your precepts.
Make your face shine on your servant, and teach me your statutes.
Rivers of water run down from my eyes, because people do not keep your law.
TZADDI. You are righteous, LORD, and your judgments are right.
The testimonies you have commanded are righteous and completely faithful.
My zeal has worn me out, because my enemies have forgotten your words.
Your word is very pure, and so your servant loves it.
I am small and despised, yet I do not forget your precepts.
Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and your law is the truth.
Trouble and anguish have taken hold of me, yet your commandments are my delight.
The righteousness of your testimonies is everlasting. Give me understanding, and I will live.
KOPH. I cried out with my whole heart. Hear me, LORD. I will keep your statutes.
I cried out to you. Save me, and I will keep your testimonies.
I rose before the dawn of the morning, and cried out. I hoped in your word.
My eyes are open before the night watches begin, so that I may think deeply on your word.
Hear my voice, in keeping with your loving kindness. LORD, give me life, in keeping with your judgment.
Those who chase after evil come near. They are far from your law.
You are near, LORD, and all your commandments are true.
About your testimonies, I have known from long ago that you set them up for ever.
RESH. Look at my suffering, and rescue me, for I do not forget your law.
Take up my case, and set me free. Give me life, as your word promises.
Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek your statutes.
Great are your tender mercies, LORD. Give me life, in keeping with your judgments.
Many are those who persecute me and hate me, yet I do not turn aside from your testimonies.
I saw those who break your law, and I was grieved, because they did not keep your word.
See how I love your precepts. Give me life, LORD, in keeping with your loving kindness.
Your word is true from the beginning, and every one of your righteous judgments lasts for ever.
SCHIN. Princes have persecuted me without cause, but my heart stands in awe of your word.
I rejoice at your word, like one who finds great treasure.
I hate lying and cannot bear it, but I love your law.
Seven times a day I praise you, because of your righteous judgments.
Those who love your law have great peace, and nothing will make them stumble.
LORD, I have hoped for your salvation, and have done your commandments.
My soul has kept your testimonies, and I love them very much.
I have kept your precepts and your testimonies, for all my ways are before you.
TAU. Let my cry come near to you, LORD. Give me understanding, as your word promises.
Let my prayer come before you. Rescue me, as your word promises.
My lips will pour out praise, when you have taught me your statutes.
My tongue will speak of your word, for all your commandments are righteousness.
Let your hand help me, for I have chosen your precepts.
I have longed for your salvation, LORD, and your law is my delight.
Let my soul live, and it will praise you, and let your judgments help me.
I have gone astray like a lost sheep. Look for your servant, for I do not forget your commandments.
