Proverbs 20 - Simple English

OriginalSimple EnglishSimpleNew Summary

Read Proverbs Chapter 20

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

Wine is a mocker, and strong drink is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

The fear of a king is like the roaring of a lion. Whoever makes him angry sins against his own soul.

It is an honour for a man to stop a quarrel, but every fool wants to meddle.

The lazy man will not plough because of the cold. So at harvest time he will beg and have nothing.

The plan in a man's heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.

Most men will each announce their own goodness, but who can find a faithful man?

The just man walks in his integrity. His children who come after him are blessed.

A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.

Who can say, "I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin"?

Two kinds of weights and two kinds of measures: the LORD hates them both alike.

Even a child is known by what he does, whether his work is pure and whether it is right.

The ear that hears and the eye that sees: the LORD has made them both.

Do not love sleep, or you will come to poverty. Open your eyes, and you will have plenty of bread.

"It is no good, it is no good," says the buyer. But when he has gone on his way, then he boasts.

There is gold, and there are many rubies, but lips that speak knowledge are a precious jewel.

Take the coat of a man who gives his word for a stranger, and hold it as a pledge when he does it for a strange woman.

Bread gained by cheating tastes sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth will be full of gravel.

Every plan is made firm by advice, and with good advice make war.

Whoever goes about gossiping gives away secrets. So have nothing to do with the man who flatters with his lips.

Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp will be put out in deep darkness.

An inheritance may be gained in a hurry at the first, but its end will not be blessed.

Do not say, "I will pay back evil." Wait for the LORD, and he will save you.

Two kinds of weights are hated by the LORD, and false scales are not good.

A man's steps are from the LORD. How then can a man understand his own way?

It is a trap for a man to swallow up what is holy, and only after making vows to ask questions.

A wise king scatters the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.

The spirit of man is the lamp of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the body.

Mercy and truth keep the king safe, and his throne is held up by mercy.

The glory of young men is their strength, and the beauty of old men is their grey head.

The bruising of a wound cleanses away evil, and so do blows to the inward parts of the body.
