Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes of the people of Israel. He said, "This is what the LORD has commanded."
If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath to bind himself with a promise, he must not break his word. He must do everything he said with his mouth.
If a young woman still living in her father's house makes a vow to the LORD, and binds herself by a promise,
and her father hears about her vow and the promise she has bound herself with, and he says nothing to her, then all her vows shall stand. Every promise she has bound herself with shall stand.
But if her father refuses to allow it on the day he hears about it, then none of her vows or promises she has bound herself with shall stand. And the LORD will forgive her, because her father refused to allow it.
And if she had a husband when she made the vow, or when words came from her lips that bound her,
and her husband heard it and said nothing to her on the day he heard it, then her vows shall stand. The promises she bound herself with shall stand.
But if her husband refused to allow it on the day he heard it, then he cancels her vow that she made, and the words from her lips that bound her. They have no effect, and the LORD will forgive her.
But every vow of a widow, or of a woman who is divorced, which they have bound themselves with, shall stand against her.
And if she made a vow in her husband's house, or bound herself with a promise made under oath,
and her husband heard it and said nothing to her, and did not refuse to allow it, then all her vows shall stand. Every promise she bound herself with shall stand.
But if her husband completely cancelled them on the day he heard them, then whatever came from her lips about her vows, or about the promise that bound her, shall not stand. Her husband has cancelled them, and the LORD will forgive her.
Every vow, and every binding oath to go without food and comfort, her husband may let it stand, or her husband may cancel it.
But if her husband says nothing at all to her, day after day, then he lets all her vows stand, and all the promises that are on her. He confirms them, because he said nothing to her on the day he heard them.
But if he cancels them in any way after he has heard them, then he shall carry the guilt of her sin.
These are the rules which the LORD commanded Moses, for a man and his wife, and for a father and his daughter while she is young and still in her father's house.
