OriginalSimple EnglishSimpleNew Summary

Read Isaiah Chapter 60

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

Get up, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you.

Look, darkness will cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples. But the LORD will rise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you.

The Gentiles will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.

Lift up your eyes and look all around you. They all gather themselves together; they come to you. Your sons will come from far away, and your daughters will be carried at your side.

Then you will see, and you will flow together, and your heart will tremble and grow wide. For the riches of the sea will be turned over to you, and the wealth of the Gentiles will come to you.

A crowd of camels will cover you, the young camels of Midian and Ephah. All those from Sheba will come. They will bring gold and incense, and they will tell out the praises of the LORD.

All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered together to you; the rams of Nebaioth will serve you. They will come up and be accepted on my altar, and I will make the house of my glory glorious.

Who are these that fly along like a cloud, and like doves to their windows?

Surely the islands will wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring your sons from far away, with their silver and their gold, to the name of the LORD your God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he has made you glorious.

The sons of strangers will build up your walls, and their kings will serve you. For in my anger I struck you, but in my favour I have had mercy on you.

So your gates will stand open all the time. They will not be shut by day or by night, so that people may bring you the wealth of the Gentiles, and so that their kings may be led in.

For the nation and kingdom that will not serve you will perish; yes, those nations will be completely ruined.

The glory of Lebanon will come to you: the fir tree, the pine tree and the box tree together, to make the place of my sanctuary beautiful. And I will make the place of my feet glorious.

The sons of those who troubled you will come bending low before you. All who despised you will bow down at the soles of your feet. They will call you The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

You have been left alone and hated, so that no one passed through you. But I will make you something splendid for ever, a joy for many generations.

You will also drink the milk of the Gentiles, and drink from the breast of kings. And you will know that I the LORD am your Saviour and your Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

Instead of brass I will bring gold, and instead of iron I will bring silver, and brass instead of wood, and iron instead of stones. I will also make peace your officers, and righteousness your tax collectors.

Violence will no longer be heard in your land, nor ruin and destruction inside your borders. You will call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.

The sun will no longer be your light by day, nor will the moon shine to give you light. The LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.

Your sun will never set again, and your moon will not go away. For the LORD will be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning will be over.

Your people will all be righteous. They will possess the land for ever. They are the branch I planted, the work of my hands, so that I may be glorified.

The little one will become a thousand, and the small one a strong nation. I the LORD will bring it quickly, in its time.
