Israel crosses the Jordan JOS 3:17
The Jordan is at flood stage, overflowing its banks as it does every harvest, and Israel has to cross it with women, children and herds. The priests carry the ark ahead of the people, and the moment their feet touch the water the river stops and stands in a heap far upstream. The nation walks over on dry ground while the priests stand still in the middle of the riverbed. Twelve stones are taken out and set up, so children would ask what they meant.
The passage
JOS 3:17 · Read the passage15And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)
16That the waters which came down from above stood {and} rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that {is} beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, {even} the salt sea, failed, {and} were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.
17And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
The place

The Jordan River is the most significant river in biblical history, flowing from Mount Hermon to the Dead Sea. The Israelites miraculously crossed it to enter the Promised Land under Joshua. Naaman was healed of leprosy by washing in its waters. Most importantly, John the Baptist baptized Jesus in this river, marking the beginning of his public ministry. The river symbolizes transition, cleansing, and new beginnings.
