The baptism of Jesus MAT 3:16
John is baptising a baptism of repentance, and the one person in the queue who has nothing to repent of asks for it. John tries to stop him and is told to allow it, to fulfil all righteousness. Coming up out of the water Jesus sees the heavens torn open and the Spirit descending like a dove, and a voice says: this is my beloved Son. His public life begins with an approval given before he has done anything.

16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
The place

The Jordan River is the most significant river in biblical history, flowing from Mount Hermon to the Dead Sea. The Israelites miraculously crossed it to enter the Promised Land under Joshua. Naaman was healed of leprosy by washing in its waters. Most importantly, John the Baptist baptized Jesus in this river, marking the beginning of his public ministry. The river symbolizes transition, cleansing, and new beginnings.
