Holy of Holies

locations.temple

The Holy of Holies was the innermost and most sacred chamber of the Tabernacle and later the Temple in Jerusalem. Separated by a thick veil, it contained the Ark of the Covenant and represented the dwelling place of God's presence among His people. Only the High Priest could enter, and only once a year on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). When Jesus died on the cross, this veil was torn from top to bottom, symbolizing that access to God was now open to all through Christ.
