Martha

Martha opens her home to Jesus and becomes distracted with much serving while her sister Mary sits at Jesus' feet listening to his teaching. Jesus gently corrects Martha, saying that Mary has chosen the better part by prioritizing spiritual devotion over busy service.

When Lazarus falls ill, Martha and Mary send word to Jesus saying 'Lord, he whom you love is ill.' Despite their urgent message, Jesus delays coming for two days, allowing Lazarus to die before his arrival.

When Jesus finally arrives, Martha runs to meet him outside the village and declares her faith, saying 'I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.' She demonstrates remarkable theological understanding despite her grief over Lazarus' death.

Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead after four days in the tomb. Martha witnesses this incredible miracle, which strengthens her faith and provides powerful testimony to Jesus' divine power over death itself.

Six days before Passover, Martha serves at a dinner given in Jesus' honor, while Mary anoints Jesus' feet with expensive perfume. Martha continues in her characteristic role of service, now with deeper understanding and devotion.
