The Sea of Galilee, also known as Lake Tiberias or Lake Gennesaret, is a freshwater lake in Israel where much of Jesus' ministry took place. Jesus called his first disciples, fishermen Peter, Andrew, James, and John, from its shores. He performed many miracles here including walking on water, calming a storm, and the miraculous catch of fish. The Sermon on the Mount was delivered on a hillside overlooking this lake.

Biblical Significance of Sea of Galilee
The Sea of Galilee, also called Lake Tiberias, Lake Gennesaret, or Lake Kinneret, served as the primary setting for Jesus' Galilean ministry. This freshwater lake, about 21 km long and 13 km wide, supported a thriving fishing industry that employed several of Jesus' disciples. Jesus called his first disciples from their fishing boats on these shores. The lake witnessed many of his most memorable miracles: calming the storm, walking on water, and the miraculous catches of fish. Jesus often taught crowds from a boat just offshore, using the natural amphitheater effect of the surrounding hills. The towns around the lake, including Capernaum, Bethsaida, and Chorazin, heard more of Jesus' teaching and saw more of his miracles than any other region. After the resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples here and restored Peter with his threefold question about love.
