Apollos

Apollos

Eloquent Alexandrian Preacher

New Testament

Apollos was an eloquent and learned Jew from Alexandria, Egypt, who was well-versed in the Scriptures. He spoke with great fervor about Jesus, though initially he knew only the baptism of John. Priscilla and Aquila took him aside and explained the way of God more accurately. After this, Apollos became a powerful apologist for the Christian faith, especially in Corinth where he watered what Paul had planted. Paul later referred to their complementary ministries, emphasizing that both were servants of Christ.

Teachable Excellence

Apollos was already eloquent and learned, yet he humbly received instruction from Priscilla and Aquila. Gifted people can still learn from others. Excellence doesn't mean having nothing more to learn.
