Mount Sinai

Mountain

Mount Sinai, also called Mount Horeb, is where God gave Moses the Ten Commandments and established the covenant with Israel. The mountain was covered with fire, smoke, and thunder when God descended upon it. Moses spent 40 days on the mountain receiving the Law. Centuries later, the prophet Elijah fled to this same mountain and encountered God in a still, small voice.
