Mount Carmel is a mountain range where Elijah challenged the 450 prophets of Baal to a dramatic contest. When God sent fire from heaven to consume Elijah's sacrifice, the people acknowledged the Lord as God. Elijah then prayed for rain, ending a three-year drought.
